THE Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) observed World First Aid Day 2018 with the announcement of several prestigious awards to its members, at the Ministry of Health’s Al-‘Afiah Hall yesterday.
The prominent Henry Dunant International Humanitarian Award of 2018 was presented to Sheikh Haji Abdul Kadir bin Abdullah, who has been the BDRCS Secretary General since 2013.
The international recognition is for his active involvement in humanitarian missions, both regionally and internationally.
Sheikh Haji Abdul Kadir told the Bulletin, “I am proud to receive the award on behalf of the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society. The award is not so much for me as a person, but for the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society, which has contributed to the development of humanitarian advocacy.”
Director of the National Disaster Management Centre Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin bin Pengiran Haji Said, the guest of honour presented the awards.
The other recipients were Deputy President of Government Communications from the BDRCS Haji Morni bin Haji Damit, who received the Henry Dunant Long Life Service Award of 2018; National Director of the BDRCS Haji Mohd Hilhamd bin Haji Johari, who received the Henry Dunant Young Leaders Award of 2018; Director of Public Emergency and Services Ahmad Akbal Adi Yusa bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who received the Henry Dunant First Aid Instructor Excellent Service of 2018; and BDRCS President Haji Mohd Suhaimi bin Haji Ibrahim, who received the Henry Dunant Award for Emerging Leaders.
Meanwhile, the Henry Dunant Volunteers Excellence Service Certificate was presented to Mohd Yusri bin Haji Dzulkifli, Mohd Nizar bin Minggu, Talib bin Budin and Awangku Amiruddin bin Pengiran Jafaraddin.
Colonel (Rtd) Pengiran Haji Maiddin also presented the promotion of rank and the credentials of promotion to several recipients.
Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Md Yusoff bin Pengiran Haji Bahar and Amirulrizal bin Makmun both received the rank of two stars, while Pengiran Yura Saiful Bahrin bin Pengiran Yura Laila, Talib bin Budin, Zaini bin Haji Abang, Sarkawi bin Haji Salleh Mohammad and Mohd Rosdi bin Haji Ruslan all received the rank of one star.
Faizal bin Gurie and Johani bin Haji Suhaili each received one crown and two PIPs.
In the Lifelong Appreciation category, Haji Islami bin Kassim received a one star rank, while the presentation of one crown and two PIPs went to Hajah Asmah binti Haji Omar, Haji Mohd Rafee bin Haji Saffar, Haji Salleh bin Othman, Mohd Musa bin Johari, Penghulu Haji Bahrun bin Talib, Datin Matron Hajah Jaliha binti Haji Momin, Jalil bin Haji Mohd Yassin and Haji Ali Ahmad bin Haji Said.
The keynote address was delivered by Senior Officer from the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Suparlan Lingga on the importance of first aid knowledge in the workplace and at home.
World First Aid Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of September every year, with the main aim of promoting more awareness on how first aid can prevent injuries and save lives in everyday situations.
This year’s celebrations are observed under the theme ‘I Do Not Need a Licence to Save Lives’.
