Launching Of First Aid Application and the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society Road Safety Campaign 2019

The First Aid application by the Red Crescent will contribute towards the Saving Lives core strategy under the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 that was approved by the United Nations. It becomes the guideline of the National Road Safety Council, MKKJR to achieve its commitment towards zero road fatalities. The Minister of Transport and Infocommunications also stressed that the MKKJR will continue to renew its approaches, and among them is through the digital platform such as the Brunei Road Safety Online Pledges. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof stated the matter at the launching of First Aid Application and Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society Road Safety Campaign 2019. The function took place yesterday morning at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications.

Yang Berhormat said that currently, over six thousand six hundred online pledges have been recorded, and hoped that by the end of 2019, at least ten thousand pledges can be achieved. In December 2018, the MKKJR with the cooperation of strategic partners has also launched the Tell Everyone Campaign that stressed the importance of using seatbelt, adhering to the speed limit and not using mobile phones while driving. From the recorded data, there is a decrease of road fatality by forty four percent in 2018 compared to the annual average from 2010 to 2017.

The application provided by the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, IFRC contains information on first aid methods and numbers that should be dialled. The app also introduce the Red Crescent Society's services as well as actions that should be taken during emergencies. The apps can be downloaded through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

The function coincided with the presentation of road safety posters and postcards to raise road safety awareness. Among the recipients were Awang Mohd Riza bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunus, Permanent Secretary for Media and Cabinet at the Prime Minister's Office. Apart from that, a talk on the application was also held by a senior officer from the IFRC.
