First Annual Meeting For Red Crescent Association


Kuala Belait: Red Crescent Association of Brunei Darussalam held its first National Executive Board Meeting Session 2013 to 2015 at the branch office in Kuala Belait.

Four new Executive Committee Members were appointed for the new session at National Stadium in Berakas; Hj Julaini Hj Abd Latip was appointed as the new President, Chai Yum Fat as the Vice President, Secretary General Hj Sheikh Abd Kadir Abdullah and Treasurer Pg Hj Yussof Pg Hj Bahar. All four new members were appointed based on majority votes.

The first discussion was chaired by Hj Julaini where it discussed various agendas including transforming the association as a-still relevant entity, to be more resourceful in terms of delivering quality humanitarian services.

Members also agreed to prepare programmes for youths whereby the association was tasked with devising strategies to include youths with potential to hold executive positions in the establishment, pushing it further into development.

A special budget has been approved by the association for the Director of Youths, reflecting the group’s dedication to youth as future leaders. First aid courses and training in emergency response will be activated with fees in accordance with the best practices of Red Crescent Associations worldwide.

To facilitate these plans, Red Crescent will put pen to paper Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with the same associations from across Asia to improve its training programmes.

Additionally, the convention allowed for restructuring of the organisation’s positions nationwide while discussing possible future visits to Red Crescent / Red Cross Associations overseas as one of their main ventures in the not so distant future.

Red Crescent Association holds year’s first meeting

THE first National Executive Board Meeting of the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association Session 2013 to 2015 was held at the association’s branch office in Kuala Belait.

The association, at its 4th Board Meeting, appointed four new Executive Committee Members for the new session at National Stadium in Berakas. By member votes, the new President Awg Hj Julaini bin Hj Abd Latip, Vice President Awg Chai Yum Fat, Secretary General Awg Hj Sheikh Abdul Kadir bin Abdullah and Treasurer Pg Hj Yussof bin Pg Hj Bahar were appointed.

The first meeting, chaired by Awg Hj Julaini, discussed various agendas which included transforming the association to ensure relevancy, to be more resourceful not only its members but also the community at large and to address its inadequacies for effective and quality delivery of humanitarian services.

He said that at the meeting, the members agreed to line up programmes for youths. The association is also entrusted to develop strategies to identify youths who have the potential to hold executive positions in order to advance and mobilise the association.

The association approved a special budget for the position of Director of Youths as members realised the significance of youth management as they were our future leaders, he said.

The association will provide first-aid courses or emergency response training and impose fees in line with the practices of Red Crescent Associations worldwide.

The Brunei Red Crescent Association will also sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with other Red Cross Associations in Asia to enhance its training programmes.

It will invite members from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent to hold dialogues on how to develop the association.

“It is also our priority to revise the board and to boost our financial standing through various activities that could help us to increase our funds. We also hope to see the number of our members and volunteers growing for the nation’s growth,” he added.

The meeting also re-structured the organisation’s positions nationwide, and discussed future visits to Red Crescent/Red Cross Associations overseas as one of their main activities.

Awg Hj Julaini urged youths to take part in the association’s work, that are not only limited to providing medical aid but covers other aspects of humanitarian work.

The association is striving to develop a humanitarian assistance unit and will continue to cooperate with the government and other NGOs.

4-day leadership training for Red Crescent Society

TO PROVIDE basic fundamental knowledge regarding the direction of the International Red Crescent Society and International Red Cross, the Red Crescent Society of Brunei-Muara District is currently holding a four-day leadership training camp from March 15 - 19, at the Jubli Perak Garden.

The participating 60 students will get the chance to receive motivational and leadership training, with hopes that they will be the future generation to continue Red Crescent activities in the country.

According to a statement release, the society hopes to produce established unit school leader's who are disciplined and progressive.

At the same time, the four-day camp will open up possibilities for interaction, knowledge exchange to increase the member's experience in group works that are in line with the values of the Red Crescent Society.

Every School Unit are asked to send a minimum of three students who are confirmed as unit school leaders in their respective schools. The main focus of the training is to give background training on 'Youth on the Move', Exploration of Human Rights Law, and Basic Introduction to First Aid.

The camp will be holding talks, lectures, practical group works, as well as motivation training in groups.

Students will also be introduced to survival and leadership training.

PBSM perlu tingkatkan kaedah pengurusan

BERAKAS, Ahad, 8 September. – Pemimpin-pemimpin Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah (PBSM) di negara ini  diingatkan supaya sentiasa  muhasabah diri dan  organisasi masing-masing dengan memberikan analisis kritikal kepada dua perkara.

Sekretari Jeneral PBSM, Awang Haji Julaini bin Haji Abd. Latip berkata  pertama  ialah sejauh mana para pemimpin menguruskan sukarelawan-sukarelawan dalam hubungan kerja-kerja kemanusiaan dan keduanya, sejauh mana ahli-ahli memaksimakan kekuatan dalam semua aspek kerja-kerja kemanusiaan.

“Kedua-dua isu ini sangat ‘crucial’ bagi setiap pemimpin untuk memahaminya kerana ia adalah isu kritikal kepimpinan yang mesti diberikan perhatian yang serius bagi kesinambungan ‘sustainability’ dan ‘visibility’ kewujudan PBSM,” jelas Awang Haji Julaini  pada Pembukaan Mesyuarat Agung PBSM, Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara kali kedua berlangsung di Stadium Tertutup, Kompleks Sukan Negara Hassanal Bolkiah di sini, hari ini.

Beliau yang menjadi tetamu kehormat majlis  menekankan kepada semua pemimpin PBSM supaya akan lebih peka dengan kaedah pengurusan yang digunakan oleh Persekutuan Antarabangsa Palang Merah dan Bulan Sabit Merah (IFRC) dalam setiap perancangan dan pelaksanaan sesuatu program, projek mahupun kegiatan-kegiatan dengan kaedah pendekatan ‘P – Perancangan (Planning), M- Memantau (Monitor), E- Evaluasi (Evaluate), R- Repot (Report) - P.M.E.R Approach’.

Jika kaedah berkenaan sentiasa dijadikan sebagai kaedah pengurusan ia  memberikan jaminan kualiti, standard dan konsisten dalam semua aspek pengurusan atau aktiviti yang diungkayahkan.

“Hanya dengan ‘P.M.E.R Approach’ kita akan dapat memperbaiki lagi kualiti, kekurangan dan akan menjadi nilai tambah yang sangat berguna kepada pengurusan seterusnya,” jelas Awg Haji Julaini.

Para ahli Mesyuarat   telah mengesahkan  pembubaran dan pelantikan baru Jawatankuasa Eksekutif bagi Tahun Pentadbiran 2013-2015.


MESYUARAT Agung Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah, Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara dipengerusikan oleh Timbalan Pengarah PBSM, Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara, Awang Mohd Rosdi bin Haji Ruslan turut dihadiri oleh pegawai-pegawai serta sukarelawan-sukarelawan PBSM cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara.

Pengerusi PBSM Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara yang baru dilantik bagi tahun 2013-2015 ialah Sheikh Haji Abdul Kadir bin Abdullah sementara Timbalan Pengerusi pula dipegang oleh Awang Haji Morni bin Haji Awang Damit.

Selain itu, mesyuarat juga mendengarkan beberapa laporan mengenai kewangan dan aktiviti-aktiviti yang disertai dan panggilan bertugas sepanjang tahun 2012.

Mesyuarat yang dipengerusikan oleh Timbalan Pengarah PBSM, Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara, Awang Mohd. Rosdi bin Haji Ruslan itu juga dihadiri oleh pegawai-pegawai serta sukarelawan-sukarelawan PBSM Cawangan Daerah Brunei dan Muara.

Sehubungan itu, pihak-pihak yang ingin memohon bagi bantuan medik bolehlah menulis persuratan dan menghantarnya ke Pejabat PBSM di Bilik No. 8 Stadium Negara Hassanal Bolkiah, Berakas.
