Sertai Istiadat Barisan Kehormatan

Bandar Seri Begawan, Khamis 14 Ogos 2014 - Bersempena dengan Hari Puja Usia Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam yang ke enam puluh lapan, PBSM NBD sepertimana lazimnya telah menyertai Istiadat Barisan Kehormatan hari ini.

PBSM NBD diketuai oleh Pengiran Haji Yura Saiful Bahrin bin Pengiran Haji Yura Laila manakala penolongnya ialah Nora Shahfitri binti Abdul Wahid. PBSM NBD diletakkan di bawah Pasukan Pertubuhan Awam yang diketuai oleh Pegawai Pengawas Pasukan Pertubuhan Awam, Inspektor Mohd Kenny Safwan bin Abdullah Yawang dan penolongnya Inspektor Abd Hafizazuddin bin Haji Abd Wahab dari pasukan Polis Diraja Brunei.

Selain dari menyertai istiadat barisan, PBSM NBD juga menyediakan pasukan kecemasan perubatan bagi membantu pasukan perubatan Kementerian Kesihatan dan Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei. Walaupun jadual latihan bagi istiadat ini padat dengan Kejohanan Bolak Sepak Belia ASEAN Piala Hassanal Bolkiah di sebelah malam namun ahli-ahli PBSM NBD yang terlibat tetap mempamerkan semangat kenegaraan yang tinggi.

Red Crescent plans monthly car boot sale

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - THE wide space area under the main staircase Stadium Hassanal Bolkiah, Berakas was buzzing with activities with over 60 vendors participating in a one-day charity car boot sale.

Organised by the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent, the event aimed at helping Brunei small entrepreneurs promoting their businesses alongside raising fund for the association.

From 7am to 5pm, visitors to the car boot sale were also treated to several fun activities such as games, face painting and photo booth corner. Vendors were creative with the display of their wares and products from placing them on colourful floor mat to elaborately decorated tables.

The products sold also varied like used clothes and shoes, food, novels, handicraft products and even pets such as rabbits.

Red Crescent secretary Muna Mahirah told The Brunei Times that the one-day car boot sale received unexpected support from the vendors and customers, so there is plan for similar event to be held once a month starting in May.

Kunjungan BSM Brunei Darussalam

PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta menerima kunjungan dari Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam. Kunjungan tersebut dimaksudkan dalam rangka meningkatkan hubungan persahabatan dan kerjasama antara PMI dan Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Rombongan yang berjumlah 11 orang dipimpin oleh Vice President Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam Chai Yum Fatt dan diterima oleh Ketua PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta Rini Sutiyoso, Sabtu (14/6/2014).

“Kami ucapkan selamat datang kepada rombongan Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam. Semoga kunjungan yang dilakukan dapat bermanfaat,” kata Rini Sutiyoso.

“Kita bisa saling bertukar pikiran tentang berbagai kegiatan,” tambahnya.

Dalam sambutannya, Sekretaris Jenderal Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam Haji Ismail bin Kassim, mengucapkan terima kasih karena telah diterima di PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta.

“Kami memerlukan sesuatu kesamaan dari PMI, karena PMI telah lebih maju dari kami. Jadi, kami akan mengikuti jejak PMI,” terang Haji Ismail bin Kassim.

“Kami juga perlu banyak belajar dari PMI, karena PMI telah dikenal dan sering disebut dalam setiap seminar. Jadi, kami tidak salah pilih, karena kunjungan pertama kami lakukan adalah ke PMI,” ungkap Haji Ismail bin Kassim.

Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam juga mengajak PMI untuk bersatu dan bergandengan tangan. “Marilah kita bergandengan tangan dan bahu antara PMI dan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam,” jelas Haji Ismail bin Kassim.
                
Dalam kunjungannya ke PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta, rombongan mendapat penjelasan mengenai kegiatan donor darah yang disampaikan oleh Kepala Unit Donor Darah (UDD) PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta, Dr. Salimar Salim, MARS. dan tayangan video tentang donor darah dan pengolahan darah.

Selanjutnya rombongan meninjau kegiatan donor darah dan proses pengolahan darah di laboratorium UDD PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta. Rombongan juga dijamu makanan kas betawi berupa bir pletok dan kerak telor.

Dalam kunjungan yang bertepatan dengan peringatan Hari Donor Darah Sedunia (World Blood Donor Day) 14 Juni, Chai Yum Fatt beserta rombongan dan Rini Sutiyoso memberikan souvenir berupa boneka kepada pendonor darah sukarela yang menyumbangkan darahnya di PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta.

Usai mengunjungi PMI Provinsi DKI Jakarta, selanjutnya rombongan melakukan kunjungan ke Rumah Sakit PMI Bogor.

Brunei Red Crescent Society invites public to donate blood on Sunday

THE Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) invites all members of the public to come and donate blood between 10am and 12pm this Sunday at Times Square in Berakas.

“(You) don’t have to be donors, but you may convince your family members, your colleagues or your friends to come on Sunday to bleed for a good cause,” said the BDRCS, in a press statement.

The BDRCS blood donation programme, titled “A Pledge of 100 Pints of Blood to Save Life”, is organised in conjunction with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, as well as the 66th anniversary of the BDRCS.

Themed “Together for Humanity”, this year’s World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day highlights the importance of partnership in handling humanitarian relief efforts.

BDRCS first began as the Brunei Red Cross Society in 1948 (under the administration of the British Red Cross), but changed to become the Brunei Red Crescent Society after the country’s independence in 1984.

Currently, BDRCS has over 1,000 members, a majority of whom are secondary students.

In addition to providing first aid services, BDRCS also provides health advisory services, first aid training at the youth, professional and community level.

The society also actively conducts various awareness campaigns about road safety, healthy living, international humanitarian laws, and diseases. – Amanda Yap

Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah anjur kempen derma darah

SERASA, Ahad, 11 Mei. - Sempena Sambutan Hari Palang Merah (Red Cresent) dan Bulan Sabit Merah (Red Cross), Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah Negara Brunei Darussalam dengan kerjasama Pusat Pendermaan Darah, Hospital Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) menganjurkan kempen derma darah, bertempat di Times Square, Berakas, di sini.

Hadir selaku tetamu kehormat ialah Ketua Pengarah Perkhidmatan Perubatan, Kementerian Kesihatan, Dr. Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abd Latif.

Dengan adanya kempen seperti ini adalah diharapkan agar dapat menyumbang kepada simpanan stok darah di Hospital RIPAS yang boleh menyelamatkan nyawa para pesakit-pesakit yang memerlukannya dengan menetapkan sasaran kutipan darah sebanyak 100 pain darah.

Turut hadir pada majlis pagi ini ialah, Presiden Persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah, Haji Julaini bin Haji Abd Latif, ahli-ahli persatuan Bulan Sabit Merah dan pegawai serta kakitangan Pusat Pendermaan Darah.

Blood donation tomorrow at Times Square

THE public is invited to take part in a blood donation drive at Times Square, in Berakas, tomorrow. From 10am to noon, members of Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Society will assemble for the “100 Pints Blood Pledge to Save Life” campaign, along with 100 volunteers. The society is encouraging people from all communities to help make a difference as part of the society’s 66^th anniversary.

THIS May 8, World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, come sit and read about the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, otherwise known as the ICRC or just the Red Cross, and what this day is all about.

 

Perusing its history reveals that, first, it was founded in 1863, and secondly it’s not one standalone organisation. It's a conglomerate of organisations and societies united by a set of principles designed to facilitate their goal of providing humanitarian aid to all regardless of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs or political views. It is funded by voluntary contributions from governments, societies, supranational organisations, and various public and private sources.

 

So very much like our very own non-government organisations (NGOs) and charities, the ICRC depends on donations for a cause they support. Of course, the difference is that it works worldwide.

 

Reading through the stories of the ICRC's work, there are amazing achievements that they have done, and more. These people have gone into warzones to care for the wounded and ill civilians, and making sure that civilians are protected during times of war. They visit prison detainees to ensure that they are treated with dignity and humanity in accordance with international norms and standards.

 

When Typhoon Haiyan left destruction in its wake in the Philippines, the ICRC worked to help the victims recover and rebuild. In Myanmar, the ICRC has been hard at work rebuilding ethnic Rakhine and Muslim communities torn apart by communal violence in Myanmar.

 

Even despite risks, a sole person can be an unsung hero. A Cambodian Red Cross volunteer hand-delivers letters on a motorbicycle to reach rural, remote villages, travelling for hours just to keep separated families connected.

 

The ICRC sometimes even responds before an event with due warning given. In the United States, when 2010 was forecasted to be severe hurricane season the ICRC prepared and trained volunteers as well as preparing equipment and materials near vulnerable spots, spending nearly US$30 million in its efforts to reduce damage and casualties, and allow rebuilding to commence without delay.

 

This day, May 8th, is to celebrate the ICRC's work and principles in humanitarian aid without borders and prejudices, and we could certainly learn from them. Thousands of people have volunteered their time to make lives better for 150 years despite the potential risks and complications they could be facing as they go about their task of helping others less fortunate without discrimination.

 

While we cannot compare our charities and NGOs with it, given the amount of funding and support they receive from multiple sources, surely we can keep them in mind as an inspiration, as a role model for us to know that it is always possible to care not just about ourselves but for others, regardless of political beliefs, religious views, race, age or sex, if and when we can, and make the world a better place for people. One single day every year should be more than enough to remind us that out there, people are spending their lives helping other people. If they can do that, so can we.
